High Blood Pressure and the Effects on Male Fertility

Have you had your blood pressure checked?

You probably know someone or at least have heard of someone diagnosed with High Blood Pressure. High blood pressure (Hypertension) is a disease that is also known as the “silent killer” because people have it for years and do not even know it. By the time people realize what is wrong it can be too late. Many people think that emotional stress is the sole contributor for hypertension but to the contrary. The foods we eat can be a contributing factor. Normal blood pressure is 120/80, 139/89 is borderline, and a reading of 140/90 is considered high and can lead to stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, or aneurysm. High blood pressure is more prevalent in men than women. According to the National Health and Nutrition Survey, only 44% of men who have high blood pressure get treated for it while 61% of women get treated. What does Hypertension have to do with male fertility or sexual function? High blood pressure has been noted to cause some cases of Erectile Dysfunction (ED). High blood pressure is something that should be taken very seriously. Getting your blood pressure checked is as simple as putting on your shoes. If you have any further concerns about high blood pressure, I suggest you contact your nearest Primary Care Physician.
